Buying pants are on part 1

In Finland we have saying, put your buying pants on. Which means that you are ready to buy stuff.

I've been looking at listings on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and I come up with these two:

Yes, these were meant to be my project cars, that I can fix during those dark and cold winter days.

But as I thought about them more, might not be worth the time and effort to check it out. 

So, then I found out this:

Patina, yes. But front glass is broken. No photos of interior. Lot's of body rust and needs to be addressed. 

The Guy said that being 14 weeks old listing with that price, doesn't feel right. So I skipped it.

Then the Guy sends me this listing:

Okay, not bad at all in the first glance. But then I read the description and not currently running, but still have the original engine block. Well, that can mean a whole lot of deals, but since there aren't picture about engine bay. But even it is in nice condition on the exterior and interior, not functional with that $10k price tag. Yeah, there might be a chance to make an offer, but I'm not yet ready for this, even thought one of the best I've seen so far.

Okay, there was one really good 1970 El Camino available in Sweden, Blocket.se, but as I was talking about it with my friend, it was sold. Price was around 17k€( ~ $18k).

As the shipping takes from 4 months to 6 months, I am not getting it for this driving season, so I am not in a hurry to buy one that I can drive right away. Although I want one that I can fix and one that can be my daily driver.

Buyers market 1970 El Camino

 Since I last posted there weren't that many 1970 El Caminos for sale in Craigslist, but a few days ago I checked out and I noticed that there a bunch of them for sale right now. 

Okay, this needs quite a lot work to do before I could take a cruise in the countryside. But $6000!

This really got me going, it's plain and basic looking. Not even trying to be the Clone. And not bad price either. $12000. I almost wanna take my friends offer for this one.

Okay, this isn't as good looking as the above one, but it has that... patina. And maybe something needs to be fixed and you know. Something little to fix.

Okay, now we skipped to a whole new level of El Caminos. $24000. I mean this would be great, hardly anything to fix, but something is a bit off. I really can't say what, but something.

Well, this is $1000 cheaper than previous, but this is a better one. I mean whole look feels like the right one, you know?

This has been for a sale quite awhile now, and I almost always mixed up with the previous one, since they look the same. But this is quite lot expensive, $27500.

Okay, this is stunning. Complete frame off restoration 14 years ago. And is in a dry climate so  minimal rust after that. Just like the $12000 El Camino, plain and basic, except this is done. But that $28000 price tag is hefty. Too nice for me, I guess.

$30000, but that has it all, but the price is... well just about out of my budget.

Back on the 1970 El Camino

 Okay, I was just browsing, casually,  Craigslist and I came across this:

And... Now I am certain that I need it. Like badly. 

I have a guy, that has a guy, that lives in California and he goes and checks out cars for people that aren't living in the States. So, should I call my guy, to call his guy and check this out?

New year and new thoughts

 Okay, I haven't really been active in my search for my next El Camino, but there are decisions that I might turn over. As I look at the listings, what is available for sale and what is the price, I am becoming hesitant with my 1969 decision. 

I mean there are really great ones available, but are they the right one for me?

Some are there for quite a while and some aren't. There was this 1969 El Camino that had a camper shell with it too, and I thought about it for awhile, but the price was just a bit out of my range.

And then you find this:

Not a bad price at all. And it's the dream car, 1970 El Camino. 

Sometimes I wish there would be for sale in Finland a 1970 model, that is in the same condition as this one, because then the price wouldn't be that high. 

But as the year changes to a new one, we are heading for the spring, which means that the price of the available cars are going to rise.

So, should I pass buying one for now, till next the autumn?

The search for the El Camino

 ...is about to begin. Well, actually has started as a market probe. To see what price ranges there are in Finland and US. One of my childhood friend has a connection in the west coast of the US and does scouting and recon gigs for clients. When we started talking about me getting an El Camino again, he suggested that he can scout the Craigslist in California and he can handle the whole transaction with his guy and the seller, so I only have to say no and yes, and when I say yes, then pay the man. His connection handles whole deal in the States and shipping and only thing I need to in here is to have the El Camino registered and taxed, which is around 50€. My 1970 was about 55€ over ten years ago.

I have set notification on local online car sales website called nettiauto.com and I geet once a week a list with new or if ad has been altered.

There are couple of the 3rd gen El Caminos for sale, but now what I am looking for. Well, maybe that 1969, but it doesn't have air conditioner. And it's... well, maybe not judging the colour scheme without seeing it in live. Maybe I should try to have a look on next weekend?

Then there is of course the craigslist. Which is pain to try to find, when you are outside the US. I understand that it's main purpose is to use as local sales listing, but there used to be a third party website that crawled all craigslist site and find what you are looking for from every state and town. 

The more I have thought about should it be 1969 or 1970, I am leaning on 1969. I like the aggressive nose and there aren't too many 1969 El Caminos in here too. Actually I could find out since our national car registery Traficom.fi has open data of all the cars that are on registery and is on-drive. 

Uh, oh, over 5 million lines of data. Too large for Google sheets. Oh well. I'll check on that later. 

But for few weeks I'm off location and I am not in hurry to get the El Camino.

Long time no post. I guess my interest went out of the garage as my El Camino. Well, now I am kind of missing that I sold my El Camino back in '17. There was reasons why I did it, but past is past and there is no reason to dwell in the past. At least it went to owner who took care and have been driving it ever since. Just last summer friend of mine hit me a message that she has seen my Ex-El Camino in a happening. I am glad.

Now, I do have a few shortcuts in my browser to search 3rd gen(LA Craigslisting) El Caminos(SF Craigslisting) for sale in USA. So, I am looking for a "new" El Camino, but I am between two choices, do I buy a 1970 again or should I buy 1969 model? As my first El Camino was 1972 and after that I had 1971. And the third was this 1970. So I could go for streak from 1972 to 1968, in where next would be that 1969.  I am kind of torn between the choices.

On second note why I started to write this posting is this:

I don't know what to make out of it? Why? Why not?

Other "El Camino".

I came across this ad in Craigslist today and someone has made a Mopar "El Camino" out of Plymouth Satellite.

After I used Google Image search I found this blog: moparblog.com and there was yet an another conversion made from Dodge Demon:

I've seen few GM-made conversions but never a Mopar one. Now one with a Hemi, would that be awesome?
